Corn Plant with pot
Common Name: Corn plant, dracaena, false palm
Botanical Name: Dracaena fragrans
The Corn Plant, also known as Dracaena fragrans, is an evergreen tree native to the tropics of Africa that has been grown as an indoor plant in Europe since the mid-1800s and in the United States since the early 1900s. They are slow-growing plants with thick canes or stems that have long, thin leaves resembling corn stalks. Because of their similarity in appearance to palm trees, these plants are sometimes referred to as "fake palms." Tall and slim, they seldom grow more than 4 or 6 feet when grown in pots, making them ideal houseplants.
This plant grows best in filtered sunlight near a window, so that's where you should put it if you're growing it indoors. Loss of leaf color variation and possible growth stunting from insufficient light. Direct sunlight could hurt the plant's leaves, which would eventually cause the plant to die. A shadier location outside is ideal for the plant.
Corn plants thrive in a loose, loamy potting soil mix. Its roots can't survive in waterlogged soil; thus, drainage is essential.
Keep the soil moist, but don't drench it, all through the growing season (spring through fall). In the late autumn and winter, watering should be reduced. However, the soil should never be allowed to dry up entirely. Problems with plant health may be attributed to soil that is either excessively moist or too dry.
Dry & Brown scorch marks in the leaves: Keep it away from direct sun
Droopy, yellow leaves: Sign of overwatering and may indicate root rot. Take care to always keep the plant's soil slightly dry by using a container with a drainage hole.
